Patrice E. Fenton, PhD is a proud mom of two, Brooklyn, NY native and former middle school special educator. Through servant leadership, she brings to EBI her expertise as an equity-centered strategist with her passion for leadership development, teacher education, and generating collective wellness, particularly in Black communities.Dr. Patrice is the former Director of Leader Support and Development at EdLoC, a nonprofit professional network organization comprised of 350+ education leaders of color across 30+ states. She also served as the first Associate Director of NYC Men Teach at the City University of New York. Dr. Patrice has published works, including her most recent chapter in Intersectionality in Education entitled, Advancing the Educational Equity Agenda: Identity Responsiveness as an Approach to Recruiting and Retaining Black Male Special Educators. She holds four degrees including a PhD in teaching and learning and a bachelor’s in business administration. She also enjoys painting as well as studying and practicing spiritual arts.

Overview

Ella Baker Institute (EBI) affirms and supports the development ofyoung people of color and their inherent capacity to lead change in their own communities. EBI's core program is Young People’s Leadership Cooperative (YPLC), an afterschool offering that supports young people in leadership and positive identity development, community organizing skill building, and career connectedness.With the support of the Boulder Fund, EBIwill be able to further resource YPLC.Currently we focus our work in Brooklyn, NY with a targeted emphasis in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. As YPLC matures in the afterschool space, our ultimate aim is to launch an independent micro-schoolin Brownsville in the 2024-25 school year with YPLC as its centerpiece.
